I have many formative experiences in my life as an Artist. During my rigourous, joyful and challenging years of outdoor painting, I have developed a strong visual language through my own innate connection with nature, its colour, textures and subtleties.
My first love is oil paint and with it I can add ink, pastel, charcoal and pencil giving pace and depth to the surface.
On becoming Historic Environments Scotlands first artist in residence at Stirling Castle, this rigour and connection paid off in fine style. I discovered I was able to harness the energies of these ancient surroundings and give them voice and form, drawing there shapes out through layers of colour and mark marking.
My art is about emotion and spirit, whether it be describing the power of trees, the depth of water, the strength of a galloping horse or the intimacy of a tender embrace.
I consistently work from my heart and from this place I develop a personal and close working connection with the land, honoring people and place, real and imagined.
