Benedict Donan Artist Biography 2025 Benedict Doonan Is a self-taught realist painter. His landscape and marine paintings frequently feature man made structures or boats. *My paintings have a particular focus on light and shadow to create and enhance the forms I see. I'm aiming to create aheightened sense of reality within the paintings so that the structural elements look both familiar and slightly alien. The paintings are composed in a formal manner and have ameditative quality Iam drawn to marine environments primarily because of the light but also the beautiful shapes, forms and colours Ifind there. Iam attracted to wooden boats when they are sitting 'beached' atlow tide. Their forms are exposed and often reflected light from standing water plays upon the hulls of these visually stunning objects." My work has been exhibited widely overthe last two decades in London, Cambridge, Bath, and Edinburgh as well as the United States. In 2017 he won the Bath Society of Artists prize for painting at their annual Open exhibition. He has exhibited at the Royal West Academy in Bristol. He has also appeared on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year.
